A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE !

About the College

The College was founded during the year 1955- 56 as per the GO of Government of Madras MS.No 1117 dated 23.06.1955 and housed in the Govt. High School, Komarapalayam. It was affiliated to the University of Madras. Originally, it offered B.Ed., Degree course and the Pandit Training Course. The College started functioning in the present buildings situated in an area of about 19 acres from 05.03.1972 onwards. As per the order of Director of Collegiate Education, Chennai (RC.No. 638133/Q2/2013 dated 09.01.2014) 9.32 Acres were given and Government College of Education, Komarapalayam it having 9.23 Acres. The M.Ed., Degree Course was started as an evening course during the year 1974 – 1975. In October 1976 the Pandit Training Course was wound up and in the year 1982 – 1983 M.Ed., Degree Course was converted into a full time course. The College became a co-education institution during the year 1990 – 1991.

A permanent hostel building for men students was opened in 1986 – 87 and for women students during the year 1993 – 1994. The sanctioned strength for B.Ed. increased to 100 with an additional strength of 20 seats sanctioned exclusively to accommodate B.Lit. candidates during the academic year 1998 – 1999. The college is affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Teacher Education University, Chennai from 2008 – 2009. This College is accredited by NAAC twice with ‘B’ grade (2005-2010) (2012-2018). And also received RUSA financial Assistance from MHRD. 2 corers were allotted out of which70 lakh for New Construction of Seminar Hall to accommodate 250 persons. Rupees 70 lakhs allotted for Renovation and Upgradation of existing Academic Building.
